Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Frying pan
  • slotted spoon
  • Saucepan
  • Serving Platter
  • Tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk Powder
  • 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 3-4 Cardamom Pods
  • 1 teaspoon Rose Water
  • few strands Saffron Strands
  • chopped, for garnish Pistachios

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prepare the Gulab Jamun Dough - In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder. Mix well to ensure all the dry ingredients are evenly distributed. Add the ghee and mix until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Gradually add the milk, a little at a time, and knead gently to form a soft, smooth dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes. - To ensure a perfectly textured Gulab Jamun, avoid over-kneading the dough as it can lead to a dense final result.
  • Step 2: Shape the Gulab Jamun Dumplings - Divide the rested dough into small portions and roll each portion into smooth, crack-free balls. Make sure the balls are compact but not too tight. If desired, you can use your hands to gently roll each ball against the back of a spoon, giving it a uniform shape. - To prevent the dough from sticking to your hands, lightly grease them with ghee or oil before shaping the Gulab Jamun.
  • Step 3: Prepare the Sugar Syrup - In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Add the cardamom pods and bring the syrup to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the syrup slightly thickens. Remove the cardamom pods and stir in the rose water. - For a hint of saffron flavor and a beautiful golden color, soak a few saffron strands in warm milk and add it to the syrup before simmering. Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the syrup according to your preference.
  • Step 4: Fry the Gulab Jamun Dumplings - Heat oil or ghee in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Gently slide the Gulab Jamun dumplings into the hot oil and fry them until they turn golden brown, turning them occasionally to ensure even cooking. Once fried, remove the Gulab Jamun using a slotted spoon and drain excess oil. - To achieve perfectly cooked Gulab Jamun, maintain a consistent temperature of the frying oil throughout the cooking process. Avoid overcrowding the pan to prevent temperature fluctuations.
  • Step 5: Soak the Gulab Jamun in Sugar Syrup - Transfer the fried Gulab Jamun dumplings into the warm sugar syrup. Ensure the Gulab Jamun are fully submerged and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to absorb the sweetness. During this time, the dumplings will become soft, spongy, and delectably moist. - For an extra burst of flavor, you can prick each Gulab Jamun with a skewer before soaking to allow them to absorb more syrup. Serve the Gulab Jamun warm or at room temperature.
  • Step 6: Garnish and Serve - Once the Gulab Jamun have soaked in the sugar syrup, transfer them to a serving platter. Sprinkle them with chopped pistachios for a delightful crunch and garnish with a few saffron strands for a touch of elegance. Serve these mouthwatering Gulab Jamun as a festive dessert and enjoy the heavenly sweetness! - For an extra touch of indulgence, serve the Gulab Jamun with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk.
