The Sizzling Spice: Jalapeno Pimento Cheese Sandwiches with a Kick recipe comes from the southern region of the United States. Its origins are unclear, but legend has it that it was created by Spanish explorers who brought canned pimentos to the United States in the early 1900s. The recipe has evolved over the years, and now it’s a classic southern staple. The addition of jalapeno peppers adds a spicy twist to the traditional recipe, making it even more irresistible.

What you need

Get ready to spice up your sandwich game with my Sizzling Spice: Jalapeno Pimento Cheese Sandwiches with a Kick! This recipe takes a beloved southern classic and gives it a fiery twist with jalapeno peppers, buttery sourdough bread, and tangy pimentos. To start, mix grated sharp cheddar cheese with diced pimentos and jalapeno peppers, and add a bit of mayo and hot sauce for extra creaminess and heat. Then, assemble the sandwiches by layering the cheese mixture between slices of buttered bread, and grill until golden and melty. The result is a sandwich that sizzles with flavor and texture, and is sure to become a new favorite in your recipe collection. So don’t be afraid to turn up the heat and indulge in this spicy delight!

Ingredients:

  • Sourdough bread – A tangy and slightly chewy bread that pairs perfectly with the creamy cheese and spicy jalapenos in this recipe. You can substitute it with any tasty bread of your choice, but I prefer sourdough for its unique flavor.
  • Sharp Cheddar cheese – The backbone of this recipe, with a sharp and nutty flavor that complements the other ingredients. You can use any type of cheese you like, but make sure it has some bite to balance out the heat of the jalapenos.
  • Pimentos – Sweet and tangy, these bright red peppers add a pop of color and flavor to the dish. If you can’t find pimentos, you can substitute them with roasted red peppers or cherry tomatoes.
  • Jalapeno peppers – Spicy and flavorful, these peppers give the sandwich its kick. Adjust the quantity to your taste – more for extra heat, less for a milder version. If you don’t have jalapenos, you can use other spicy peppers like serranos or habaneros.
  • Mayonnaise – Creamy and rich, mayonnaise brings all the ingredients together and adds moisture to the sandwich. If you’re vegan or don’t like mayonnaise, you can use avocado or hummus instead.
  • Hot sauce – Optional but highly recommended, hot sauce amps up the heat and adds a tangy touch to the sandwich. Use your favorite brand or make your own. If you don’t like hot sauce, skip it or use a milder one.
  • Butter – Butter is used to grill the sandwich and adds a rich and toasty flavor to the bread. You can use oil or margarine instead if you prefer, but butter is the classic choice.

Utensils:

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Mixing bowl – You can use any size you like, depending on how many sandwiches you are making.
  • Grater
  • Spatula
  • Non-stick skillet – You can use a regular skillet or a griddle, but make sure it’s large enough to fit the bread.

Sourdough bread, my favorite bread in the world!

What makes sourdough bread so special? For starters, its unique tangy flavor and chewy texture set it apart from other types of bread. But that’s not all – sourdough bread is also packed with health benefits, thanks to its natural fermentation process that makes it easier to digest and absorb nutrients. As for me, sourdough bread holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of my travels to San Francisco, where I tasted some of the best sourdough bread in the world. Whenever I bake with sourdough bread, I’m transported back to those fond memories, and that’s what makes this recipe even more special.

Jalapeno peppers, the perfect spice for any dish!

As someone who loves spicy food, jalapeno peppers are an essential ingredient in my kitchen. Not only do they add a fiery kick to any dish, but they also contain capsaicin, a compound that has been shown to have numerous health benefits, including pain relief and weight loss. But that’s not all – jalapeno peppers are also surprisingly versatile. You can add them to salsa, guacamole, or salad, or use them as a topping for pizza, tacos, or burgers. And of course, they are the star of this recipe, where their heat and flavor perfectly complement the creamy cheese and tangy pimentos. So if you’re a spice lover like me, don’t be afraid to crank up the heat with some jalapeno peppers!

What to serve it with?

Whenever I make my Sizzling Spice: Jalapeno Pimento Cheese Sandwiches with a Kick, I always serve them with a side of crispy sweet potato fries. Not only do they complement the spicy and creamy flavors of the sandwich perfectly, but they also add a bit of sweetness and texture to the meal. I love sweet potato fries because they are a healthier alternative to regular fries, thanks to their high fiber and nutrient content, and their sweet and savory taste is irresistible. To make the fries, I simply cut sweet potatoes into thin strips, toss them with olive oil and some spices like paprika and garlic powder, and bake them in the oven until crispy. The result is a delicious and easy side dish that takes this sandwich to the next level.

  • 1/4 cup, diced Pimentos
  • 2-3, diced Jalapeno peppers
  • 1/4 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Hot sauce

Place about 1/4 cup of the cheese mixture on the non-buttered side of one slice, and top with the other slice, buttered side up.
