As someone who grew up in Mumbai, India, I know a thing or two about the colorful and exotic ingredients used in this recipe. Ube, a purple sweet potato that is the star of the cocktail, is a popular ingredient in the Philippines. The vibrant color of this root vegetable is enough to make me want to create a recipe around it. And when I tasted it, I knew it would make for an amazing cocktail. The creamy coconut milk and tangy lime juice add a tropical twist that remind me of my travels through the Caribbean.
The Ube has been a staple in Filipino cuisine for generations and is used in desserts, bread, and even ice cream. In the Philippines, Ube ice cream is so popular that some people even eat it with bread instead of cones. How cool is that? The Ube is not only delicious, but it’s also packed with nutrients like vitamins A and C, iron, and fiber. Fun fact: Ube is also used in traditional Filipino medicine to help lower blood sugar levels. So, you can feel good about sipping on this cocktail that is both tasty and nutritious. Yum!

Purple Bliss: Fresh Ube Cocktail Recipe is a vibrant and refreshing drink that takes inspiration from the tropical flavors of the Caribbean and the Philippines. The star of the drink is the Ube, a versatile and nutritious purple sweet potato that has been a staple in Filipino cuisine for generations. Ingredients:
- Ube – The star of the cocktail, ube (purple sweet potato) is what gives this drink its vibrant hue and subtle sweetness. If you can’t find fresh ube, frozen or powdered ube can be used instead.
- Coconut Milk – Coconut milk adds a creamy and rich tropical flavor to the cocktail. You can use full-fat or light coconut milk depending on your preference.
- Lime Juice – Fresh lime juice adds a tangy and bright flavor to balance the sweetness of the ube. If you don’t have limes, lemons can be used instead.
- Agave Nectar – Agave nectar provides a natural sweetness and is perfect for sweetening cocktails without adding additional flavors. You can use honey or simple syrup as a substitute.
- Ice Cubes – Ice cubes are essential for a refreshing and chilled cocktail. Crushed ice can also be used for a slushier texture.
- Lime Wedges and Ube Chips – Lime wedges and ube chips make for a beautiful and fun garnish. Ube chips can be made by thinly slicing fresh ube and baking in the oven until crispy.

Ube (Purple Sweet Potato)
Ube is a highly versatile and nutritious root vegetable that has been a staple in Filipino cuisine for generations. Known for its vibrant purple color, it is packed with healthy vitamins and minerals such as antioxidants, vitamin C and manganese. Despite being a beloved ingredient in Filipino cuisine, it’s often overlooked in Western cooking, but its natural sweetness and unique flavor make it a great addition to desserts, baked goods, and even cocktails! In this cocktail recipe, I mashed fresh ube to create a sweet and colorful puree that serves as the base for this delicious drink, and I’m excited to introduce this unique ingredient to new audiences.
Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is a creamy and indulgent ingredient that adds a rich tropical flavor to any dish. It is a common ingredient in Southeast Asian and Caribbean cuisine, and has become increasingly popular in recent years as a vegan milk alternative. Coconut milk is naturally free from lactose, soy, and gluten, making it a great option for those with dietary restrictions or allergies. In this cocktail recipe, I use coconut milk to create a smooth and creamy texture that complements the subtle sweetness of the ube and adds a hint of coconut flavor. Whether you have a dairy intolerance or simply love the taste of coconut, coconut milk is a fantastic ingredient to have on hand for a variety of recipes.
What to serve it with?
Whenever I make this Purple Bliss: Fresh Ube Cocktail Recipe, I like to serve it with a platter of fresh fruits and light appetizers. Some of my favorite options include watermelon and feta skewers, smoked salmon bites, and shrimp ceviche. These dishes are perfect for a warm summer day and they complement the flavors of the cocktail quite well. I love the combination of sweet and savory, and these dishes offer the perfect balance to the cocktail’s tropical flavors. Plus, the fresh ingredients will brighten up any table setting and make your guests feel like they’re on a tropical vacation.
